Supreme Commander is one of the best RTS games I’ve ever played. It has a unique and interesting economy, fun base-building, awesome viewing ability (with extreme zoom-in/out) and of course you can build hundreds and thousands of units! This game far outshines even newer RTS games that have been coming out.

Supreme Commander has forever changed the way RTS will be played, mostly due to its strategic zoom, but also due to its sheer depth of scale and strategy/tactic options (these pertain more to Forged Alliance than they do to the original SupCom). For those who are familiar with Total Annihilation, this game is a must have, as it surpasses what TA accomplished in just about every way imaginable. Be warned though, you have to be willing to learn with this game, as it forgoes the limited scope of games like C&C (all versions).
As other reviews have stated, pay attention to the system requirements for this game, and keep in mind that the minimum requirements will allow for little more than 1v1 online games at low resolution and graphics. However, many will find that the online 1v1 offered is some of the most intense and fast-paced multiplayer action available, and climbing the ranked ladder becomes addictive.
Among the numerous pluses regarding this game, two stand out in particular to me. First, the game is run based on projectile physics (thus the need for a beefy CPU). This means, in short, that battles due not use scripted firing or dice rolls to decide the outcome. Every unit in the game calculates things such as speed, arc, and distance when firing, which in turn means that proper micro-management can allow one to dodge incoming fire to some extent.
The second plus about the game to me is its modding community. For those familiar with TA, this needs no introduction. However, for those unaware, it was very easy to go online and download anything from a custom made map, to new units, to total rehauls of Total Annihilation online, thus significantly extending its shelf life and replayability. The same can be said for Forged Alliance.
All in all, this is a game for the truly devoted RTS fans, as it has a very steep learning curve. Imagine the strategic depth of the Civ series, combined with the fast pace multiplayer action of StarCraft, and throw in some outstanding graphics and map design. Well worth giving a shot, especially with the drop in price!!!

This game is amazing, the graphics are top notch, especially is you have the hardware to run it. I have a Dell XPS and I running the game with very high detail. I get no slowdowns whatsoever, the game brings a lot of memories since Total Annihilation was my second favorite RTS, the first been Starcraft. The new units are cool and the terrain is very realistic.
I love the zooming option where you can see every detail of your unit. The only complaint I have is units pathfinding, units can get easily stuck, especially boats. But then again this a problem with almost every single RTS.
All in all I love this game and I recommend it to all the fans of Total Annihilation.
My top 10 RTS.
1. Starcraft
2. Supreme Commander
3. Total Annihilation
4. Company of Heroes
5. Dawn of War
6. Age of Empires I, II and III
7. Ground Control
8. Dark Reign 2
9. Warcraft 3 the frozen throne
10.Empire Earth

Sci-Fi RTSs this good don’t come around too often. Game play has a slight learning curve, but playing with some friends galled that along quickly. GPGnet is void of many players, but it’s a great way to avoid the headaches of TCP/IP. I’m enjoying this game and think it will be a favorite until Starcraft2 comes out.

Well I must say that I absolutely love this game, it has some amazing graphics and really is a great “redo” of Total Annihilation. That being said there are a few things to watch for, a big one is the specs on your computer. This is a major hog so be sure that you have a high end system that can handle it to play it. Also, games easily take hours and hours to play, so be sure you have a lot of time to waste when you get into it. But if you are a fan of RTS game and have the time, this is the game for you.

I bought this for my 13 year old son and he has enjoyed this game for many many hours. He has discovered that he can extend the game through “mods” which alter gameplay and add scenarios. this has enhanced gameplay and kept the game from getting stale.

Supreme Commander and it’s expansion Forged Alliance are both superb games. They feature smooth game play, a well laid out interface (which is important in an RTS), and three years later they still look great graphically. There are three factions in Supreme Commander, and four in Forged Alliance. Each faction seems well balanced with the others, and each has enough of a twist on their unique flavor to prevent them from feeling like clones of each other.
Furthermore, there is a unique campaign for each of the three main races in Supreme Commander while the expansion, Forged Alliance, features a single campaign that changes in various ways depending on which of the three main factions you choose to play. The fourth faction in Forged Alliance is only playable in multiplayer and skirmish battles. Both games feature large scale battles involving hundreds, and potentially thousands, of units – including colossal experimental units that can at times literally rampage through several hundred lesser units – which is always a blast to watch.
Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance both feature impressive replay value. Firstly, you can play through each faction’s campaign. While each campaign is only six missions, these missions can take several hours to complete at times – with the campaign missions in Forged Alliance feeling particularly epic in scope. Furthermore, there is a skirmish mode included in both games, which allows you to have sandbox game play against the AI. Lastly, Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance feature excellent multiplayer support, and the games include an interface for multiplayer gaming called GPGNet which allows for easy matchmaking and chat.
In short, if you’re looking for a good sci-fi themed RTS that focuses more on strategic than tactical game play, look no further – Supreme Commander and it’s expansion Forged Alliance will deliver. With both great games packed into a single Gold Edition package for a low price, I highly recommend trying out Supreme Commander: Gold Edition.

Pros: The Gold Edition is a great value for anyone who wants to pick up Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. These games revolutionized the RTS genre with their enormous scope and improvements, letting you, the player, focus on strategy rather than tactics alone. If you enjoy RTS games, you owe it to yourself to try these out.
Cons: These games, especially Forged Alliance, have very high system requirements to enjoy the game, due to the hundreds of individually-calculated units on screen at the same time. While it runs on older hardware, you’ll need a newer dual-core or better processor to enjoy it.
Other: Upgrading to the latest patched version for online play was very easy with this version — there was one cumulative update.

Liked this game very much, seems overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s very engaging. This game has a lot of replay value, and I can’t think of any other games that are this massive of a scale. Up to scalable play with 8 players at once, 1000 controllable units per player, 100+ km maps, 4 factions, and many different unit types.

I’ve been a fan of Total Annihilation ever since it came out (and the expansion units made it even better), and Supreme Commander continues the tradition, improving on it in important ways and changing the nature of the game in other ways.
There isn’t any “flash rushing” here, it often takes minutes before a first assault can begin and the early defensive structures do an admirable job of fending off weak attacks, this game is far more defensive and tech oriented than most multiplayer games of TA turned out to be, but there are many ways to play, much more variety than in typical TA tactics.
This is not a quick game – expect any game to last 15 minutes if attempting to play quickly, hours with defensive tactics.
Pros:

Fun multiplayer game, as long as you don’t let every game stretch into a multi-hour epic struggle, that just leads to burnout
Fun skirmish (AI) mode, with several AI modes to choose from.
Many interface features that make managing massive armies a more tractable problem, especially the splitscreen features.
The experimental units are just awesome, it’s always a race to build one to see what it can do to the opponent’s base.
Cons:
The singleplayer campaign is basically a write-off, skirmish mode is much more fun.
This game stresses ANY computer to its limits, it gets pretty sad when the game is running in slow motion because one of the players has a computer that can’t keep up.
Overall:
Play skirmish and multiplayer, build infrastructure fast, do a bit of rushing with certain units, race to the experimentals, and this game will give you one great play after another.
